Toni Braxton Talks Going Broke, Expensive Taste and More on 20/20

Grammy award winning singer, Toni Braxton, was in the spotlight on the latest episode of ABC’s “20/20”. In the over seven minute segment, the singer discusses the more controversial and troubling moments she’s endured in her career as a recording artist.

Over the years, we have witnessed blaring headlines about her lack of money, multiple filings of bankruptcy, declining record sales, and being diagnosed with Lupus. Tony set the record straight, opening up about the more private aspects of her life.

The most revealing part of the interview came when she discussed her spiraling financial situation. It’s hard to believe that in the height of her career when she was generating over $170 million in record sales alone, Tony Braxton only saw $1,972. She explains, “What happens is they will give you an advance million on the next record and the next record, so you kind of stay in debt in a sense”.

She also admits to splurging on expensive home products stating, “I love dishes and house things so I kind of lost it a little bit on the house ware. One-thousand thread-count sheets, that’s what I indulged in.”

While she’s clearly experienced dark years, the interview sheds light on how she has been able to turn negative life experiences into blessings.

Watch the legendary Toni Braxton sit down and candidly discuss things she’s kept quiet for years.
