JIMMY IOVINE SPEAKS ON THE PRESENT AND FUTURE OF MUSIC #MESSAGE

When Jimmy Iovine speaks, you’d be wise to listen. Sitting down with Pharrell and Scott Vener on Beats 1 Radio, the Interscope and Beats co-founder shares his two cents on the current state of the music industry.

Jimmy talks about why communication is key for record labels, how YouTube is creating a culture of “fake news” and how technology is helping new artists like SZA and Jessie Reyez leverage lucrative deals that they wouldn’t have got 5 or 10 years ago.

However, Jimmy also says that artists’ increasing reliance on touring and technology is actually hurting the music itself. “Bruce Springsteen took two years off from touring to make his record,” he says. “Everybody I know’s making their record on the road.”

Having been on both sides of the business, Iovine believes that record labels and technology companies need to come together to find solutions to the challenges the music industry currently faces. Soak up game below.
